MUBC at Aon Australian Rowing Championships 2021 - Finals day 1
Published Thu 25 Mar 2021
Reporting in from the Aon Australian Rowing Championships at Lake Barrington, Tasmania where MUBC has fifty-one athletes presenting. Today was the first day of finals action with some fantastic results already for MUBC and our athletes with outstanding Gold, Silver and Bronze medal performances.
I am delighted to record the Gold medal winning performances from our Women’s Under 23 2/- of Laura Foley and Lily Cathcart and Men’s Under 21 2/- of James Scott and Harry Fox. In very windy conditions both crews outstayed their competition to claim their Australian Titles. Well done!! A very proud moment for athletes, family, coaches and club.
Congratulations on Silver Medal winning performances of Lucy Stephan, WO2/- and Damien Schroder MU21LW1X. Special mention to Damien as he rowed through his opposition (sixth at one stage) to take silver in the last fifty metres in a very gutsy effort in blustery conditions. Great work Damien.
Medals continued with Bronze medal winning performances from Sophie Walmsley U23LW1X, Tom Hooper and Will Achermann U23M2- and Simon Keenan and Josh Booth OM2-. Great performances in each event. Soph has been steadily improving and displayed all her usual grit today in a close finish. Well done to Tom & Will to get on the podium in very tough conditions during their event and watching Simon and Josh power to the line over the last 500m is just awesome.
