Vale Anne Nicolay

MUBC and the rowing community is saddened to learn of the death last week of Anne Nicolay, a much-loved MUBC member for many years before relocating to the Philippines and subsequently to Canberra.

Anne was a highly motivated and talented rower particularly in sculling. She won the Champion of Champions at the masters’ national championships in 2006 and several national titles over many years in single, double and quad sculls. She was a member of the Victorian Masters State team as well as representing MUBC in double sculls at the Head of the Charles and in Poland at the FISA World Masters regatta.

In addition to her passion for rowing, Anne was a devoted grandmother to three boys, on some occasions travelling from the Philippines to Melbourne to attend Grandparents’ Day at the boys' school. She was a talented photographer and an adventurous traveller. Following back surgery, Anne made a valuable contribution as a coach in Canberra and Perth, where she divided her time over the last few years.

MUBC extends our deepest sympathies to Anne's friends and family at this saddest time.

Winners Women’s F quad at the Australian Masters National Championships in 2008. (L – R Pamela Whiting, Anne, Beth Walter, Patsy Montgomery, Coach John Reddaway).
